I’ve had a short career as a semi-serious knitter…meaning since i’ve actually begun to start AND finish a project. I’ve showcased some of my stuff here but for some reason never got around to photographing the 2 tops i knit which i thought turned out quite well…well they are decent enough for me to wear out so that counts for something!
The first was this top which i knit using the measurements of a regular sweater and modified the neckline. I remember it was just after i had done my first lace practice project and decided to create my own design using my favourite stitches. The lavender yarn is lace-weight and so the edges and neckline didn’t hold up very well when i was done so i decided to improvise some more and taught myself to pick up stitches to give the top some decorative edging. I’m not sure if everyone will agree but i love the colour contrast between the vivid, deep red and the lovely lavender. Best of all its the perfect weightage to wear in sunny Singapore.
The other top that i’m pretty pleased about was from Simply Knitting magazine and its a ribbed camisole pattern called ‘Summer Dreams’. Here is a picture of the pattern in the magazine and my finished work after. Thats all for today folks…i have a few more things approaching completion and i’ll be showing them off shortly….errrm provided they turn out alright!! Have a great week everyone.

Hi, I wrote you earlier this spring, asking about the knitting shops in Hanoi. We finally went to pick up our son, and I got to visit the shops. I got some of the silk, but were you able to ask the shop people if it really was silk? My husband tried, but couldn’t make himself understood. As I am knitting it, it seems kind of fuzzy. Much more than I would think silk would be. Do you know for sure? I got quite a bit of it, I do love it, whatever it is!

Hi Marti,
Of course i remember. So glad to hear you are a much more complete family now. Congratulations and god bless! My sister did check that it was silk and mine fuzzes all over the place as well and is rather unevenly spun…in fact from my amateur analysis i would suggest re-spinning if you can….Barring that be very careful with your tension as you knit because i’ve had some of my yarn just break off but the sheer colour of it…that makes it all worthwhile! What are you making with your yarn?

Thanks so much for your answer! I did have some break too, already. I am making a toddler sweater right now out of some of it. I got 6 skeins of the multi color(looks like someone spilled a box of crayons) and I’m thinking about trying EZ’s Adult Surprise jacket with it. Talk about being able to wear it with anything!! Not sure what I’m going to do with the rest of it yet, but just couldn’t resist it. I loved Hanoi, what a great experience.
