I’m drowning in wips. 90% of my needles have something on them and nothing is finished! I’ve been such a bad knitter.
The only thing making some sort of progress is my silk throw. I’m guessing because its a simple stockinette stitch with a garter stitch edge. I cast on 100 stitches and this is my go-to knit for the TV shows i actually do want to watch and not just listen to. I haven’t quite managed to be able to knit without looking down at whats going on.
The silk turned out to be pretty self-striping and thats about the only exciting thing going on with the blanket. The colours are so bright that i hesitate to do anything fancy since it won’t show up but knitting this blanket has left me feeling cheery from just looking at the colours and the feel of the soft silk.
I’ve finished the ball of silk in the pictures and i’m awaiting the arrival of more silk. Till then my other wips will get a chance!

Hi, I tried to leave a message before, but I don’t think it went thru. I am going to Hanoi sometime in the next couple of months. Can you tell me the area where you found the yarn shops???? My husband has been there many times and if you can give me an idea of the area we should be able to find it. Thank you!

Hi Marti,
Its a side street in the old quarter. The best reference i can give you is the tourism center thats right by Hoan Kiem Lake. The tourism center is smack across the street from the knitting road i went to and in between the knitting street and the lake. I’ll be going back at the end of the month and will try to get the actual street name then.

Thank you Jessie! I appreciate it! You are going back? That’s great. We are anxiously awaiting the call to pick up our little boy who is waiting there. We have several adopted children as well as bio and he is living with a foster family there. My husband has made multiple trips to that area with Project Vietnam. so he is very familiar with the area, in fact he said it was probably there near the lake when I told him about it. I have never been to the North and only to the South once. Do you go often?

Hi Marti,
I must commend you on the generosity of your spirit. I am about to get married soon and my fiancee and i have talked about adopting children as well because i strongly believe every child needs a good home and regardless of whether or not i have bio children of my own i would want to adopt as well.
I am visiting Vietnam quite frequently this year as my sister has been posted there due to her work. Like you i had been to the South, Ho chi minh, once and this trip was my first to the north. When you go do get your husband to take you to the cloth market as well. Fabric is quite cheap and there is an amazing variety. Tailoring is also very affordable there (i paid USD 8 to tailor a dress and the material had cost me about the same amount).
My next trip there will be in 2 weeks so do give me an email address or check back in and i’ll have the name of the street.

Hi Jessie, my email is: mjmhps@hotmail.com. I’d love to chat more with you. When we go we will be staying at the Lake View, as my husband knows the owners and has stayed there. I’m really curious about brands of yarns and prices. I’d love to stock up if they are reasonable. How about spinning fibers, did you see any??? I had some shirts made for me when we were in the south. Please email me so we can talk more.
Thanks!
Marti
